Wanna Talk About Good Girls and Bad Boys?

Then join me as I guest post on the ACFW blog!

This post coincides with my first column for the ACFW Journal on the same topic (which is a fully interactive digital ezine and print magazine for ACFW members only).

But unlike a magazine, the purpose is to generate a discussion amongst authors and readers about the trend in fiction of good girls "saving" bad boys.

I personally think the topic in question is used by fanfiction authors to...create mary sues. perfect characters that cannot do any wrong. self-inserts who romance the bad boy. However, the topic itself is not a bad one, and can be used right...just tends to be completely overshadowed by the times it's done godawfully wrong. Aaand still need coffee, blargh.

I saw your article on the ACFW Blog and I so appreciate your remarks. The truth of the bad boys character and motivation not being "matched" to the good girl types is really ignored by so many teens. I believe we need to be responsible to not plant the seeds of false expectations and dreams. People look to story to show them how to live and make choices. When we glorify the bad boy image we enable those bad boys to take advantage of young girls who aren't aware of how negative these relationships can turn out. Thank you for your article!
