Some Google Alert Fun

If you aren't using Google Alert, you need to be. I regularly get cracked up when something shows up in my Inbox about Character Therapy. Here's one of the funniest things I read about myself. (And yes, I realize that does rather smack of narcissism, but the whole Google Alert system was built around the idea that we all want to read about ourselves. So take it up with Google.)

I found the following post at this link. I don't know the author, and she doesn't know me, which makes this funnier. I hope she writes in.

I'm an entrepreneur and on a one-woman campaign!! Heretofore not phrases I've associated with myself. Pretty cool.

Let's Analyze: What are some of the funnier things you've read with Google Alerts?

I don't find it works very well for me. I'm being linked or talked about a lot more frequently than Google alerts tells me about. Mostly it tells me about when I post (as if I didn't already know that!!!!)

yeah...same here. only a few times has it sent me to something like this. usually it is my own posts, and several days later, at that. weird.
I love that! I do Google Alerts for my name and the name of my debut. And whenever I get them via email, i get all excited. But more than half the time, they are just my own blog posts. Oi!

did mine review show up in your inbox? i didn't tell you on purpose b/c i wanted to surprise you. :)
That is SO cool!!! What a way to wake up. lol
I know I need to sign up for google alerts. Argghhh.
I set up Google Alerts years ago for my name, blog title, etc. I've added my book title recently, my reason being to discover who is helping me promote so I can thank them. I perform Google searches from time to time using my name and title for that reason, too.

I think it's cool that this blogger shined the spotlight on you and your helpful site, Jeannie. Clearly she was impressed. Makes sense to me. I've long been impressed with you and your site myself!

ever my barnabas, keli! you are so appreciated. :) just read jody's tribute on The Doctor's Lady to you. how sweet was that?!?
I prefer not to use services that clog up my inbox, but I need to use Google Alert one day.

On the other hand, that author made a typo with "todays tight economy".
I think I need to optimize my Google alerts because I get a lot of videos on youtube of a young girl named Sierra Gardner and games scores from people named something similar. =)

it's easy to block those unwanted posts...you just put a "minus" sign in front of the string of words that most likely lead to those types posts. for example, i kept getting alerts for hitler's daughter, who was named a variety of things, but also included jeannie campbell. so i typed in the alert "-hitler's daughter" in the field and i stopped getting those alerts. same thing happened with some woman who wrote a bagpipe book (come on, get a laugh...campbell, scotland...bagpipe...gives credence to stereotypes) but i typed in "-bagpipe" and stopped getting those alerts as well. hope this helps!
You are an entrepreneur, and a stinkin' smart one at that. :)

I haven't signed up for Google Alerts yet. I suppose I probably should, but I'm a little afraid of what would turn up. :)
very fun!
